Primary 5 – Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes

by (sco)

In our assembly, we learned about a girl named Sadako. After an atomic bomb was dropped in Japan, she became very sick and spent time in the hospital. To pass the time, for luck and to wish for peace in her country she tried to make one thousand paper origami cranes.

We have been making paper cranes in class to help spread this message of peace and hope across all European countries, especially with our friends in the Erasmus project. We are trying to make 1000 cranes to take to the workshop in Spandau, Berlin.

Dear Scottish students,
thank you very much for all the paper cranes you made! We will thread them up and send them with our stonepaper cranes to Hiroshima.
Yours
Ulla from Berlin
